I was working in the IT as a manual tester. I experienced the disadvantages of the sedentary lifestyle first hand.
Clearly remember my first days of the office job: fatigue, headache, eye-soreness, muscle pain were my ’symptons’. It was not easy to adapt to the constant sitting and to the office environment.
I was totally aware of the fact my phisically active nature has to make compromises in the office though. Leaving my desk regularly was my first rule. While a good walk gives your head a fresh air and new ideas, the blood- and lymph circulation speeds up as a benefit. Not to mention that according to the law everybody can have a 10 minute-off per hour not just the smokers…
Then I levelled regular walks up to a whole routine of exercises done in a separate meeting room. Sounds funny but I survived the negative effects of long-sitting with this.
Proper sitting posture doesn’t exist. The dogma of proper sitting works contradictionary: freezing the office worker into one position. While constant position-changing is the key: sitting on fit-ball then on a chair, basic gymnastic routine like shoulder circles, neck flexion and extension, pelvic bone tilts, hip circles, etc.
The corporate massage wasn’t popular back then when I was reading specifications or running black box tests, reporting bugs.
But these days it gets more and more accepted and favoured. I offer my service with a portable massage table, oil, body lotion so the office worker doesn’t need to save time for massage before or after the woorking hours. They can enjoy massage during daytime.
The original massage position (laying on the table) would help the employee to relax and separate the work from recreation.
I can give them a wonderful treatment on the overstressed neck-shoulder area, plus to the hip and back. With this they can avoid the negative effects of the bad posture (caused by sitting for long). I know how does it help and how refreshed they would be for the next meeting or next shift.
Companies need relaxed, balanced workers. Do you agree?
Well don’t hesitate to contact me (as an ex-software tester who became a massage therapist and sportsrehabilitation trainer) since I definitely know what does a stressfull office work mean!
